New York City, November 2022
Merchandising students from Harcum College embarked on an educational and visually stimulating field trip to New York City, immersing themselves in the dynamic worlds of art, design, and retail.
A Brush with Creativity at the Museum of Arts and Design
The day kicked off with a visit to the Museum of Arts and Design (MAD). This institution is renowned for its dedication to celebrating the intersection of art, craft, and design. As the students explored the museum's diverse exhibits, they were treated to a wide range of artistic expressions, from innovative contemporary designs to traditional craftsmanship.
For students, the visit to MAD was not just an opportunity to appreciate art but also to understand how artistic concepts and creativity play a crucial role in visual merchandising and product curation. It broadened their horizons, encouraging them to think outside the box when it comes to the presentation of retail products.
Bryant Park Christmas Village: A Festive Retail Extravaganza
After an enriching morning at MAD, the students continued their journey by taking the subway to Bryant Park. Here, they stepped into a winter wonderland at the Bryant Park Christmas Village. The park was transformed into a magical retail destination, offering a wide array of holiday gifts, artisanal crafts, and delicious treats.
This excursion allowed the merchandising students to observe and analyze the layout, visual merchandising strategies, and overall customer experience of a bustling seasonal market. The Bryant Park Christmas Village served as an ideal backdrop for discussions about visual merchandising, product selection, and the art of creating a memorable shopping environment, especially during the festive season.
